SAR Scramble at Udorn RTAFB, Thailand

KKE 1953B - A U.S. Air Force HH-3C of the 30th Air Rescue Squadron prepares to take off on a mission to pick up a downed pilot. Udorn AB, Thailand, 1966.

Note from Bill Jaynes SR:

Thank you for the pictures,I have installed them in my computer, they do bring back memories. You can tell that they are Rescue CH-3s and HH-3s because the Ice deflector has been removed from in front of the engines. We needed all the horse power we could get, in fact, when we were going in for a pick up we would adjust the engines for 110% power rating and in some cases more then that. The flight engineer could do that from the cargo compartment with a screw driver. I forgot to re-adjust one time and when we went back to Lima 36, the pilot was pulling in pitch to land, the power went way up beyond the red line, this is not good for the engines, haha. Checked them out when we got back to Udorn and they were fine.
